Commenting after Jim Murphy's political briefing about Tory cuts, Liberal Democrat Alistair Carmichael said: "Jim Murphy and Scottish Labour are looking increasingly desperate as the election approaches.

"After thirteen years in Government they have so little achievement to point to that they are reduced to trying to scare people into supporting them."
