Commenting on Richard Lochhead's meeting with European Commissioner Joe Borg before the latest round of quota talks, Liberal Democrat Fisheries Spokesman Liam McArthur MSP said:

"Proposals for further cuts to fishing effort could spell disaster for parts of the Scottish fleet.

"Mr Lochhead needs to use this meeting with the Fisheries Commissioner to make it crystal clear that such cuts will be firmly resisted a the negotiations in December.

"The Cabinet Secretary must demonstrate that he has learned lessons from the terrible deal he signed up to last year.

"Scotland's fishing fleet needs more effort from Scotland's Ministers, and less political grandstanding."
