MP Malcolm Bruce is continuing with his campaign to improve school bus safety.
Following a meeting with local politicians, council officials, school bus safety campaigners and bus operators in Inverurie last week, the Gordon MP is contacting Transport ministers in Westminster and Holyrood to seek clarification on a number of points.Malcolm Bruce MP: Gordon
Malcolm Bruce MP said:
"I am grateful to all parties who contributed to the meeting, including the Department for Transport. The meeting was productive and common ground was identified. For me it reinforced the need for a galvanised campaign to improve bus safety.
"I am contacting both Governments to seek clarification and support on four points.
"There seems to be confusion on a pilot for the no overtaking rule so I am seeking clarification from both ministers.
"Modern electronics means there is scope for flexible, visible signs but rather than every authority developing their own, I am asking the Department of Transport to take a lead in developing the best signage.
"Most education authorities specify seatbelts but all are asking for clarity on the best seatbelt safety recommendation. I would like the department to respond.
"Everyone agreed that apart from these changes we need a campaign of safety awareness which I hope the department will undertake."
