Greater support needed for victims of human trafficking - Brown

Originally published by Scottish Liberal Democrats

Commenting on the publication of a Scottish Government report into human trafficking that reveals there have so far been no successful prosecutions for human trafficking in Scotland, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown said:

"The trafficking of human beings into Scotland for sexual exploitation, forced labour and domestic servitude is simply appalling and unacceptable. The proposals outlined in this report are a welcome step towards stamping out this evil practice.

"Liberal Democrats also want to see the Government focus on providing specialist support, medical care, legal advice and safe housing for the victims of human trafficking.

"This would also make it easier for victims to come forward with information that could be used to crack down on traffickers in Scotland."

Ends.
